Why none of John Henry's siblings could be William's parent.
Published : 9 March 2023 - 11:37:02pm Why it is impossible for any of John Henry’s siblings to be the parent of William, even though someone insisted it had to be because John Henry had gone to war. Since William was born in 1912 war doesn’t even come into the picture as John Henry went to war in 1915 before grandpa met nana and the year that William lost his mother, and sadly where we seem to have lost where he was raised. I am basing this information on Harry and Mary sharing 1031 cM in their DNA. If any of JH’s siblings were the parent of William, Mary and Harry would be 1C1R and share 141-851 cM When you look at ancestry.com and the possibilities here is what they came up with. 99% 1st cousin – 553-1,225cM For this to be possible, John Charles would need to be William’s Father. 99% Great Grandparent/grandchild – Certainly not a possibility 464-1,446 cM 99% Great Uncle/niece – Certainly not a possibility 251-2,108 cM 99% Half uncle/niece – 500-1,446cM Very fitting for John Henry to be the father and William and Harry having different mothers. 1% grandparent/grandchild – 1156-2311cM 1% half sibling – 1,317-2,312 cM 1% Uncle/Niece – 1,349-2,175 cM I also compared these numbers to a few different cM charts and records and the answer comes up the same every time. There are only two possibilities. 1. William is the child of John Charles making Mary and Harry cousins 2. William is the child of John Henry making Harry the half uncle to Mary And this is where it gets sketchy, with all the DNA we have both are a possibility. So John Charles would have been a 55 year old man with 9 children and a wife when William was conceived. Or John Henry was a 23 year old single man. I am still working on which one would be the likely father, but the numbers work for both of them. Hopefully soon I will have a definitive answer so this family know for sure their place in our family. No matter what they are very much loved by myself and Linda for sure. It would be nice if they had the chance to meet even more of the family, there are a few others Melodie has met. It’s very sad that Mary didn’t get to meet more family before she passed. She was such a beautifyl person and anyone would have been blessed knowing her, I certainly feel blessed with the short time I had with Mary. This is not something that should be swept under the rug, it’s something to embrace. Our big family is even bigger, and it appears even bigger still with the news of another cousin amongst us to give me more numbers to figure out, numbers that aren’t quite making sense yet, but I have faith they will.
Two more children to the John Smith/Ann Raines Family
Published : 14 July 2019 - 3:27:03pm When you look at the family of John Smith and Ann Raines, you will notice that there are two additions to the family, Earnest and Rachel. According to the baptism records they are definitely in this family, enlarging the family to 15. Also a lot of corrections to birthdays after finding all the records. One interesting item I found was that Andrew James was born November 29, 1868 and then Sophia Amelia was born December 2, 1868, twins born several days apart? Or it is showing that Andrew James was Presbyterian, St Andrews, maybe he was not part of this Smith family? Also his parents were John and Anne. Something to take a look at. That does not mean that he isn't part of the family because when you look at Earnest's records it says he is United Church, Metropolitan, which is different than all the rest Church of England St John's Church. But when you look at the actual birth certificate his parents are John Smith and Ann Raines. Also I found a record for Rachael Raines Smith who was born 01/25/1877 only days before Ann passed away, is this one of the "twins" from her death? Still so many questions. Andrew's marriage certificate shows his parents indeed are John Smith and Ann Raines, so the only explanation would be they are twins born days apart, unless one was adopted
New Information Added
Published : 3 January 2019 - 10:47:47am I have entered information on nana's family dating back to the 1100s, found on Ancestry.com, not 100% sure of it's accuracy as it was obtained from another family tree. Still more to be added to it. Also have updated some of the recent births/death/marriages, we will still be adding more.
Clara Morley
Published : 26 April 2007 - 7:33:04pm If you check out Nana's line you will notice that I have found information on Nana's family. Her father was William Morley, a coal steamer in Nottingham and her mother was Philomena, most likely maiden name is Taylor. She had 6 sisters and 1 brother, the brother passing away at 14 years old. More information will follow in the coming months so keep your eyes open! You can also see that I have found the birth place for Popper!
Welcome
Published : 26 April 2007 - 7:32:42pm You will need to join and log in to view or edit the Smith Family Tree. This has been done for our own protection. Well I figured that why should one person be left with updating our family tree all the time and take the heat when there are errors. We can make our own errors and correct them too! If enough of us spread the word amongst our families then we might just have one huge united family tree. We don't have to limit this to just the Smith's either, I for one will be adding my mom's side of the family as much as I can find out on it. You will notice that the information on the Stanburys from The Smith Family Odyssey by Dorothy and Charles has been included here, so we are not limited. Everyone is welcome to add their other parent too, just click on your other parent (when they have been added) and add their mother and father. I will try and get a tutorial out there quickly on how to update this. Once the tutorial is out, or if you figure this out before that, you are welcome to add your non-Smith born parent\'s family if you wish. The tree is nearly complete, Linda and I have been working on the John Henry Smith line November 17 & 18 and the rest of the tree was completed by me on November 15th to 17th I believe. If you spot any errors you are welcome to change them if you can figure it out or let me know by email, maggymail@shaw.ca and I will make any changes. We do have a few questions on some parts to complete this 100% other than changes that each of us can make to our own sections of the family tree. I hope you all enjoy this and get something out of it.
